MK Bezalel Smotrich (Jewish Home) explained Sunday why he did not attend the rally commemorating the assassination of former prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, in a television show hosted by leftist moderators Orli Vilnai and Guy Maroz.
"I have nothing to do at a rally where 90% of the speakers are leftists spokesmen. I don't connect to that," he said. "I am not a partner to Rabin's heritage at the end of his days. I am not a partner to the vision of a Palestinian state, to the 1,500 dead that we received immediately after [the Oslo Accords], to the person who brought terrorists here from Tunis and gave them guns and turned an intifada of rocks and sticks into one of guns and bombs.
"You turn this day into a day that is all politics and leftism," he accused. "I have nothing to do there."
The discussion included Emily Moati, a spokeswoman for the Arab Joint List, who accused the right wing of incitement and violence against the Left.
Smotrich said that he, too, receives death threats from leftists, and that there is a general problem of violence in Israeli society, which is not specific to the right wing.
