A leading Islamic Jihad terrorist, Iyad Hardan, was killed this afternoon in what is presumed to be an Israeli liquidation. He was considered to be one of the most widely wanted Palestinian terrorists, responsible for dispatching several suicide terrorists and carbombs over the past several years. Most notably, he directed one of the Machaneh Yehuda market bombings in 1998, in which two people were killed and 21 were wounded.

Hardan was imprisoned for a while by the Palestinian Authority, but was released six months ago when the current war started. He was killed by an explosion in a public phone booth near the former Israeli Administration offices in Jenin. His boss was similarly killed by Israeli forces three months ago. Jihad leaders promised today to avenge the killing.
