Sports and Culture Minister Miri Regev (Likud) send a letter to Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked (Jewish Home) on Tuesday, demanding that she take action to stop the provision of free public defense attorneys to Arab terrorists.
"The vast majority of the terrorists are residents of eastern Jerusalem who hold permanent residency status cards, and some are even citizens of the state of Israel who hold an Israeli teudat zehut (ID card - ed.)," wrote Regev.
"The government of Israel has made a series of important decisions with the goal being to deal with the terror wave," continued the minister. "In parallel to the operative security steps, legal decisions relating to the negation of residency status, the negation of stipends, and the demolition of homes in addition to other decisions have been made."
However, Regev noted that even as the government is advancing the counter-terror steps she enumerated, it continues to use public funds so as to provide legal representation for the terrorists.
In doing so, the state provides the best defense attorneys and jurists in Israel, including various experts including psychiatrists and pathology experts, to defend terrorist murderers and would-be-murderers in court.
"I'm aware of the importance of legal representation in a democratic state of law, but terrorists need to fund that with their private funds and not with the money of citizens of the state of Israel who they are attempting to murder," emphasized Regev.
"This paradox must stop," she said, calling on Shaked "to immediately amend this practice in a temporary order, and to prevent legal aid from terrorists and murderers at the expense of citizens of the state of Israel."
