The Border Police – a hybrid military-police force that specializes in policing riots in Judea and Samaria – has begun calling up its reserves, to deal with the current wave of unrest.
Thus far, five battalions have been called up, and have been stationed in eastern Jerusalem.
Police sources said that preparations are under way to call up 16 battalions – more or less the entire reserve force, according to some reports – depending on what the Israel Police requires.
Matan Cohen, a Border Police reservist, told Arutz Sheva that despite having a very busy work schedule, he left everything when he was called up to serve. “We are here to work,” he said. “We are here to protect the country; to protect Jerusalem, to bring a sense of security back to the streets. And I think the citizens deserve this.
“You ask about fear – I think someone else should fear, now that we are here,” he added.
