A shooting in Jerusalem's Mahane Yehuda market was revealed to be a criminal act - not a terror attack, police stated Friday afternoon.

Earlier Friday, a 20 year-old IDF soldier shot a 25 year-old man after the latter tried to steal his gun.

Both were transported to local hospitals with injuries in the limbs - one to Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center and one to Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center, according to Magen David Adom (MDA).

United Hatzalah volunteers also arrived at the scene, and stated that they treated a third person, a bystander injured from shrapnel; he is now being treated for light injuries.

Initial concerns were high that the incident was a terror attack.

However, an initial investigation now reveals that the confrontation was the outcome of an ongoing argument between the soldier's father, a greengrocer in the market, and the 25 year-old, an owner of a popular bar in the same market, according to Walla! News

Shortly after the shooting, the soldier ran to the exit of the market with others involved in the dispute before tripping and falling; he was arrested by police at the site.  The soldier has been detained at the Mahane Yehuda police station.

Meanwhile, police have shut down that area of the market and are beginning to collect eyewitness reports. One told the news daily that the situation is not atypical.

"The businessmen here are constantly in conflict with one another," she said. "Sometimes it's a joke, and sometimes it's serious."
