Two girls from New York City's Borough Park neighborhood were killed overnight Monday/Tuesday after a head-on collision between two vehicles in Los Angeles, Kikar HaShabbat reports Tuesday.

A third girl was critically injured, and it is not certain that she is still alive, according to the outlet. A fourth was lightly injured and is being treated in an area hospital.

The girls were returning from vacation when a vehicle from an opposing lane veered into them at high speeds on a highway.

The vehicle burst into flames; fire and rescue crews worked for hours to rescue those inside and transfer the injured to hospital.

The names of the victims have not yet been released.
