New MK: 'I Deny Political Correctness, I am a Jew'

Jewish Home MK Yinon Magal's maiden speech in the Knesset on Tuesday focused on the meeting point between secular Zionism and Jewish religion.

Magal mentioned the Uganda Plan, which modern Zionist founder Binyamin Ze'ev Herzl adopted at one point as a temporary solution for the Jews' statelessness. Magal noted that Herzl's support for the plan caused many of the delegates at the Sixth Zionist Congress to weep, faint and despair, but that Herzl himself then changed tack and swore in his closing speech, "If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand wither."

Magal then put a kippah on his head and said the Shehechyanu blessing, which Jews recite when reaching an important milestone.
