After weeks of shooting for the foreign affairs portfolio, Jewish Home chairman Naftali Bennett spontaneously announced Saturday that he wants to be named Education Minister.
Defending his party chairman's decision on Sunday morning was MK Yinon Magal.
"Bennett has studied the issue and fallen in love with the Education Ministry. He sees it as an important role," Magal explained. "He is a man of vision. He understands that he must mentally force himself to connect to this thing, the program is not always as you requested."
Indeed, on Saturday evening Bennett informed Prime Minister Netanyahu of his new demands, which include the Education Ministry as well as two other portfolios for his party.
It is believed that MK Ayelet Shaked will be named Minister of Culture and Sport, and Uri Ariel the Minister of Agriculture.
Netanyahu is expected to weigh the request and reply within the next 48 hours.
If Netanyahu and Bennett agree, it will certainly help pave the way for a right-wing-haredi government of 67 seats, and enable Netanyahu to provide Yisrael Beytenu chairman Avigdor Liberman with the much sought after foreign affairs portfolio.
While there is still wrangling over the Religious Affairs Ministry between Shas and Jewish Home, the general assessment is that Shas will receive the position.
