Family members mourn 12 year-old Shani Maril on Sunday, as her family has arrived back in Israel ahead of the funeral. Maril died tragically in a ferry fire in Thailand last week.
Until then, relatives said, Maril had a "lovely time" on her Bat Mitzvah trip - and that is how she would like to be remembered.
"We would like to remind [the public] and remember that, until that moment [of the tragedy], Shani enjoyed a beautiful trip with her family, full of fascinating landscapes and wonderful experiences," Anat Maril, her aunt, stated to reporters Sunday. "The family would like to thank everyone for their condolences and offers of help."
"However, the family wishes to respect its privacy and refrain from further media coverage," she added.
The Maril family, from Modi'in, arrived in Israel early Sunday morning, according to Channel 2. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
The fire broke out at about 3:30 pm local time last Wednesday, as the ship was heading back to Phuket from Krabi. It began in the stern of the vessel and spread.
The girl was in the bathroom when the fire broke and was locked in as it burned, her family stated. At least 100 other passengers were rescued.
Less than 24 hours later, and after a frantic search, divers found the girl's body 18 meters under the sea - still trapped inside the bathroom.
