The attack in Haramiya Wadi this morning, at the Israeli checkpoint in the old British police station there, began when one or two terrorist snipers shot from a mountainside above, at the checkpoint. They fired at soldiers and at civilian cars that were passing by. Rescue forces that came to the scene were also fired upon and hit; among these were Avigdor Shatz, the regional security officer, who is now listed in serious but stable condition. 13 others were also wounded, and all were evacuated to Jerusalem hospitals. IMRA notes that as part of the Oslo program, the CIA as well as Israel trained Palestinian snipers. Many terrorists have been caught by soldiers at the Haramiyah Checkpoint in the past.
