The IDF Chief of Staff during the “Disengagement” from Gush Katif and northern Samaria, Dan Halutz, and other senior reserve officers attached to the political left, are featured in a new campaign against Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

While Halutz has often spoken against the nationalist camp, the campaign also features figures whose political bent was previously unknown, notably former Head of Central Command, Major General Avi Mizrahi.

In 2010, Halutz joined Kadima and supported Shaul Mofaz. Two years ago, he announced he was leaving Kadima because he disagreed with its positions on recruiting Arab citizens and haredim to the IDF.

The interim report of the Winograd Commission, which investigated the Second Lebanon War, determined that Halutz – along with then Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Amir Peretz, had failed in carrying out their roles in the battle.

In an interview with Ma'ariv in recent days, Halutz said that Netanyahu is detrimental to the relationship between Israel and the United States. He "is educated, and knowledgeable, and intelligent, but I think that he says one thing and thinks another. Talking about the two-state solution, for him, is just lip service," Halutz opined.

"Most of our weapons systems are American,” he added, “and they are the only ones who will have our backs in a war.”

Likud said that the generals' campaign is “further proof of the millions of dollars that are flowing from leftist organizations in the US and Europe to radical leftist NPOs in Israel to try and topple the Likud government.”
