Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein is evidently upset that Otzma Yehudit candidate Baruch Marzel, number four on the joint Yachad - Ha'am Itanu list, refused to shake the hand of Central Elections Committee chair Arab Supreme Court judge Salim Joubran in presenting the party list last Thursday.

Marzel at the time explained "I refused to shake Joubran's hand because at every opportunity he had he came out against the people of Israel and IDF soldiers." Back in 2012, Joubran raised a storm by refusing to sing Hatikva, the national anthem of the state of Israel which he serves.

"Just recently he (Joubran) asked to cancel the punishment of the terrorist (MK) Hanin Zoabi, and in a session I was present at he behaved with her with fondness. Joubran isn't loyal to the people of Israel and I don't shake hands with those who act against us," added Marzel.

Weinstein didn't take fondly to the action of protest, and went as far as to send a letter to Joubran, reports Haaretz.

"I want to strengthen your hands and express before you the shock that I felt at the racist ex‎pressions that were turned against you which I will not repeat due to their wretchedness," said Weinstein - despite the fact that Marzel didn't reference Joubran's being Arab in his criticism.

Paraphrasing Irish statesman Edmund Burke, Weinstein continued "it has already been said in the past that 'the surest way to guarantee that evil will prevail in the world is that enough good people don't do anything.'"

"This is the time to join hands with all the good forces in Israeli society who fear for the image of the state and are interested in preventing it from sinking into the murky bog of racism," he added. "Denunciation or shock isn't enough. Standing aside before statements that sound marginal, absurd and extremist has a heavy societal price."

The attorney general concluded "preserving the human character and the honor of man, and certainly in a divided society such as ours, demands the obligation to join hands and work actively to get rid of racism, discrimination, and ex‎pressions of exclusion and hate."

Despite Weinstein's claims of "racism," as noted Marzel said his refusal to shake Joubran's hand stemmed from the Arab judge's rulings against the Jewish people and the IDF, as well as his support of an MK who openly supports the Hamas terrorist organization bent on Israel's destruction, with the genocide of the Jewish people written in its very charter.
