Once again, the Kiryat Arba gravesite of Dr. Baruch Goldstein has become the center of Purim controversy. Kach members - still reeling from their defeat in court yesterday when permission was granted to place PLO-flag draped boxes in Rabin Square in Tel Aviv - want to hold a memorial ceremony for Goldstein at his grave tomorrow. Goldstein killed 29 Arabs in the Machpelah Cave eight years ago on Purim, after hearing much evidence that a massacre of Hevron\'s Jews was planned for the next day. (The evidence amassed by the relevant Commission of Inquiry included an Arab proclamation spread throughout Hevron regarding a major attack against the Jews of Hevron planned for \'one or two days from now,\' an urgent meeting called by then-Maj.-Gen. Sha\'ul Mofaz with local Jewish leaders to inform them of an impending major terrorist attack, and the discovery of many Arab-placed weapons in the Machpelah Cave.) Goldstein\'s act was roundly condemned at the time by all political parties. The gravesite area has now been declared a closed military zone, but the Kach people plan to petition the Supreme Court for permission to hold the memorial there.
