The Police Investigative Unit is investigating an incident in which a Border Guard allegedly intentionally fired at another officer. The victim died of gunshot wounds, officials said.
The victim, 19 year old Avi Gronov, was allegedly killed Wednesday morning during the course of a confrontation with the shooter, officials said. The incident - initially reported as an accident - occurred at Border Guard station in Kibbutz Yad Mordechai in southern Israel. During the confrontation, the shooter aimed his personal weapon at the victim and threatened to shoot him. Several minutes later, he did so, striking Gronov in the face.
The victim was taken to a hospital in Ashkelon in critical condition. He died of his wounds a short time later. The funeral is set for Thursday afternoon. Surviving Gronov are his parents and two sisters.
Police said that the shooter is cooperating with the investigation, and has made a full confession and re-enacted the crime. Police did not say what charges would be filed against the shooter.
