Jordan has reportedly asked Turkey for help in rescuing a Jordanian pilot captured last week by Islamist terrorists during a mission in Syria, the Hurriyet daily newspaper reported Sunday night.

According to the report, the Jordanian government has appealed to Turkey’s Embassy in Amman to help save Moaz Safi Yousef al-Kassasbeh, the 26-year-old pilot who was captured by the Islamic State (ISIS).

The Turkish Foreign Ministry, National Intelligence Agency and other related institutions have begun to review the details of the incident and will tell Jordan if the country can do anything, sources told Hurriyet.

Although ISIS has suggested it downed the plane using an anti-aircraft missile, the United States military rejected their claim

Jordanian government spokesman Mohammed al-Momani also addressed Wednesday's incident, stating that his country "initially thought the plane might have been shot at." State news reported later that the plane had crashed

The family of the pilot have called on the organization to release him.

Speaking in Arabic with CNN, the pilot's brother asked that ISIS "be supportive of our brother Moaz and to be merciful on him, please send him back to us. He is just a soldier who is following orders and has no authority."

Jawad added that his brother Moaz is a "pious man who prays and fasts and he always flies with his Quran with him."
