The Cabinet on Tuesday evening, in a telephone vote, decided to appoint MK Tzahi Hanegbi (Likud) as Deputy Health Minister (in addition to his role as Deputy Foreign Minister).
As well, MK Tzipi Hotovely (Likud) was appointed as Deputy Science, Technology and Space Minister (in addition to her role as Deputy Transportation and Road Safety Minister).
Both Hanegbi and Hotovely will work in the name of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who has taken the roles of Minister of Health and Minister of Science, Technology and Space when Yesh Atid MKs Yael German and Yitzhak Perry resigned from these roles.
Yesh Atid’s ministers all resigned from their posts after Netanyahu fired Yesh Atid chairman Yair Lapid from his position as Finance Minister, ultimately leading to elections.
Aside from German and Perry, former Education Minister Shai Piron and former Welfare and Social Services Minister Meir Cohen resigned as well.
German said in response to Hanegbi’s appointment, "I call on the Deputy Minister of Health to continue to promote the reforms on which we worked diligently over the past two years in the health system and immediately add the necessary budgets to shorten waiting times at hospitals and cut the deficits of Health Maintenance Organizations.”
