Knesset Speaker MK Yuli Edelstein (Likud) on Saturday night sharply attacked former Justice Minister Tzipi Livni over her zigzagging in recent years.
Livni, who was originally elected as a member of Likud, was among the group of Likud MKs who split the party and joined Kadima when it was formed by then Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. After an unsuccessful stint as leader of the opposition, Livni jumped ship again and split Kadima, forming Hatnua. This week, she agreed to run on a joint list with Labor leader Yitzhak Herzog.
"Livni’s jumping to a fourth party within a few years is political corruption and a bad example to the younger undecided generation. She must be reminded of her frenetic shuttle diplomacy while taking party financing with her on her way to the next station," said Edelstein.
He further noted that it was not the Likud that was responsible for the collapse of the outgoing government.
“The current Likud ministers have done a great job in their field! Likud must now win a favorable outcome so it can lead a coalition for the next four years. It is not Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu who is to blame for the disintegration of the coalition, but rather his partners, who placed a different difficulty every time,” said the Knesset Speaker.
Meanwhile, Livni herself launched a scathing attack on Netanyahu on Saturday night, using the platform given to her on the satirical program “Matzav HaUma” (lit. State of the Union), which airs on Channel 2.
Livni overstepped the boundaries of political correctness by hinting at Netanyahu when she said that she and Herzog agreed “to take out the garbage together” and when she said, “Bibi said that we’re going to elections because of the 0% VAT. I thought there is a zero in this story, but it’s not the VAT.”
