In its second ruling, the Court decided not to intervene in the Defense Ministry regulations exempting yeshiva students from military service. Several left-wing MKs had petitioned against the policy, and the Court ruled three years ago that the Knesset must in fact legislate a policy on the matter. The Knesset has not yet done so, however. The Court \"backed down\" from its threat to decide on the matter in light of Knesset inaction, and instead gave the Knesset another two years to legislate the issue.
