Egged bus driver Shalom Deri, 30, was recognized for his heroism today. Yesterday, shortly before 6 PM, he stopped his #961 bus - en route from Jerusalem to Tiberias - near the Jordan Valley community of Mehola when he noticed a suspicious passenger, wearing a long coat, about to board. \"Sensing danger,\" as he later said, he told the Arab not to get on, and went over to him to push him off. \"He was already on the second step, but I held his arm. I saw him place his hand under his shirt, but I managed to push him off the bus and close the door. He then started running and blew himself up.\" The suicide would-be killer was killed, and no one else was hurt. Deri attributed his heroism to \"G-d\'s help.\" When asked, \"Weren\'t you afraid that he might blow himself up on top of you?\" Deri answered, \"I just don\'t know what to tell you. It was some form of instinct, like a father for his children...\"
