Two residents of the Israeli-Arab city of Um El-Fahm were arrested yesterday for trying to murder a 27-year-old Jewish truck driver from Kiryat Tivon. The intended victim was delivering baked goods in Um El Fahm when the two Arab suspects began following him on a small tractor. After they forced the truck to stop at a dead end, they approached the vehicle - one of them with a gun. He tried to fire at the Jew, but the gun jammed. The driver then fled the area and alerted the police. Police say that the two suspects, whom they caught after a short pursuit, are known to have been involved in weapons smuggling in the past; one of them spent three years in prison for such activity.
The terrorists of Hevron, who had been quiet for a number of weeks, rained down fire at an Israeli target last night in Tel Romeida. The shots came from the Haret a-Sheikh hills, which the army took over for a short time last October; afterwards, it transferred control of the hills to PA Preventive Security chief Jibril Rajoub in exchange for his promise that all shooting at the Jewish neighborhoods below, and elsewhere in the vicinity, would cease. Sharon promised at the time that the army would retake the hills if shooting resumed. Yesterday\'s shots were not the first since then.
Hizbullah continued jabbing at Israel last night with anti-aircraft fire towards Israeli aircraft flying along the border with Lebanon. The booms were heard in Kiryat Shmonah and in many of Israel\'s northern towns.
IDF tanks totally cut off the Arab village of Jayus, near Tul Karem, early this morning. One of the suicide terrorists killed in yesterday\'s Pardes Chana attack - in which three policemen and one civilian were wounded - was from Jayus. His partner was from Shechem, and both were members of Fatah-Tanzim. Early this morning, IDF forces operating in various locations throughout Yesha (Judea, Samaria, and Gaza) arrested four Arabs suspected of carrying out terrorist activities against Israeli targets. Two of the suspects are members of Islamic Jihad.
