Dr. Eli Schussheim, chairman of the NGO "Efrat" which gives assistance to Jewish women not to have abortions, spoke to Arutz Sheva ahead of Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) about the work his organization does to save Jewish babies.

Packages filled the Efrat headquarters - but these were not special one-time Rosh Hashana care packages. Rather, these were monthly aid shipments to mothers who were faced with economic hardships leading them to consider abortion.

"We said if you will not do it (the abortion) I will give you everything that you need for at least two years," said Schussheim. By removing the economic dilemma, the doctor notes that his organization has saved over 58,000 Jewish children since being founded in 1977.

Even with the group's efforts, over 100 babies are still aborted in Israel every day according to Schussheim, although the general trend has been positive: in 1977 there were around 60,000 abortions a year, a rate that has dropped to 40,000.

The doctor reported the organization doesn't have a single case of a mother than regrets not having the abortion, and in fact many chose to volunteer with the NGO afterwards to help other pregnant women facing the same dilemma.

Responding to charges that his group "convinces" mothers not to abort "against their will," Schussheim notes his group is "not pro-life, we are pro-choice. We say you should decide, but give the possibility to decide with knowledge" that the pregnancy can be financially possible.

In conclusion, the doctor named a notable contributor to the organization: Jonathan Pollard, now in his 29th year of incarceration in an American prison on charges of spying for Israel.
