Barrages of rockets at southern communities continue at an increased pace Sunday morning.

In the latest salvo, five people were injured by a mortar shell fired at the Erez Crossing near the Gaza border. Two people have been injured critically and one is suffering moderate to serious injuries.

The three have been treated at the scene by Magen David Adom (MDA) teams and evacuated to Barzilai hospital in Ashkelon for further treatment.

Hamas's Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades claims it fired 13 mortar shells at the crossing.

Dozens of rockets have exploded in open areas Sunday; several were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system over Sderot and Ashkelon.

Earlier this morning, one person was moderately injured by shrapnel in Ashkelon, as two rockets landed in civilian areas.

At least one house in the Gaza Belt region also suffered light damage from rocket fire this morning

The latest rocket and mortar barrage comes on the same day as the four-year-old victim of a mortar attack on Friday was laid to rest.

Daniel Turgeman of Kibbutz Nahal Oz, was buried at the Hevel Shalom cemetery in the Eshkol Region.
