Hassidic music sensation Avraham Fried expressed his astonishment at the endurance and determination of the Israeli people at a sell-out conference in Jerusalem this week - one he didn't even think would go ahead given the ongoing war with Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza.

"I was really worried that no one would come to the concert," he told Arutz Sheva, "but miracle of miracles - the place was full!"

"I am humbled tonight. It shows me the Israeli spirit - that no matter how broken the heart is, they come out and they want to sing and they want to pray and they want to rock the heavens."

At the concert Fried was reunited with the family of Gilad Sha'ar, one of three Israeli teens murdered by Hamas in June.

Fried first met them at the shiva morning tent just days after their son's body was discovered, along with those of Eyal Yifrah and Naftali Frenkel. 

"Going there that night was very difficult... it wasn't easy, but they asked me to sing," he recalled.

He said he was amazed to see them at the concert, and felt inspired at the strength of spirit they were showing in the face of such tragedy.

"To see them here tonight (at the concert)... they're just amazing. They're smiling! It's absolutely incredible! It's a lesson to all of us: no matter how broken we might be, how depressed - from much smaller things... we just.. go on living and go on doing good things and helping others."
