GSS head Avi Dichter told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee today that the GSS officially endorses the security need for a fence separating PA areas from pre-1967 Israel. He said that it is currently no problem for terrorists to cross the Green Line from PA areas for the purpose of perpetrating an attack against Israelis, while the fence in Gaza is effective in stopping such infiltrations. He also said that there currently exist nine specific intelligence warnings of possible attacks in Israel, and another one regarding a possible Kassam rocket attack on a Jewish town in Shomron. Dichter did not explain how the physical barrier he recommended would stop a Kassam attack against Israeli cities.
The GSS chief also noted the increasing involvement of Israeli-Arabs in Palestinian terrorist cells. MK Michael Kleiner (Herut) later commented, \"Solutions such as transfer, a Palestinian state, or a fence only address the problem of the Arabs of Judea, Samaria and the Gaza Strip, but do not solve the growing hostility among the Arab citizens of Israel...\"
