In honor of the Jewish holiday of Shavuot last Wednesday, which celebrated the receiving of the Torah, religious singer Naftali Kalfa released a stirring new single last week called "Torah Misinai" ("Torah from Sinai").
The song features the opening passage of Pirkei Avot (Ethics of our Fathers) in the Mishna, delineating the transmission of Torah and religious authority from Moses to Joshua, on to the Elders, the Prophets and the Men of the Great Assembly (the Sanhedrin).
The uplifting words continue with a quote from the prayers, reading "He (G-d) will open our hearts with his Torah and will put love for him in our hearts, love for him and awe of him, to do his will."
In the song, Kalfa is joined by Shlomi Cohen who both sings and plays the guitar. Amit Golan produced and arranged the song, which was composed by Kalfa and Cohen.
Kalfa was born in Canada, and has harbored a passion for music since his days in youth synagogue choirs.
