Former MK Dr. Aryeh Eldad on Thursday eulogized Uri Elitzur z''l, the legendary publisher of Makor Rishon and a veteran of the Israeli media, who passed away earlier in the day.

Speaking to Arutz Sheva, Eldad noted that Elitzur was a leader in the national camp who was "never afraid to fight against the establishment."

Eldad remarked that Elitzur helped to establish communities in Judea and Samaria, and was one of the heads of the Gush Emunim ("Bloc of the Faithful") movement that work to increase Jewish presence in the areas after the 1967 Six Day War.

While Elitzur was close to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Eldad pointed out that Elitzur was never afraid to confront him, or leave him when he felt Netanyahu's political ideas were "dangerous to the future of Israel."

One of the key legacies of Elitzur according to Eldad was knowing the importance of contesting leftist control of the "public relations arena," arguing that the media could prove even more crucial than actively building and settling the land.

"If we don't fight over the public ideas we will lose the main fighting over the land of Israel," remarked Eldad.

The ex-MK concluded that Elitzur was a consistent leader for the nationalist movement, adding "he worked until the last moment."
