Brig.-Gen. (res.) Effie Eitam has been offered the post of chief of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon\'s Counter-Terrorism Staff. HaTzofeh reported on Friday that Sharon had made the offer, and the story was picked up by other major papers today. Eitam retired from the army over a year ago after what should have been his natural promotion to the highest military rank was apparently blocked by the kippah on his head. Eitam has been flirting with entering politics either in the Likud or a national-religious party for some time. Last month, the Supreme Court disqualified former Mossad chief Danny Yatom from heading Sharon\'s Counter-Terrorism team due to his involvement in the 1984 Bus #300 incident. Eitam acknowledged meeting with Mr. Sharon last week, but would say no more.
