Some 10,000 Israeli Arabs rallied in northern Israel on Tuesday, according to AFP, demanding a "right of return" for Palestinian Arab "refugees."

The demonstration took place in Kibbutz Lavi, which was built on land which once belonged to the pre-Independence Arab village of Lubya.

Demonstrators waved Palestinian Authority (PA) flags and read out the names of alleged "Palestinian villages" that were evacuated 66 years ago, before observing a minute's silence in their memory. The ceremony mocked the Memorial Day moment of silence and reading of names, which is used in Israel to commemorate terror victims and IDF soldiers.

"A demonstration organized by Israeli Arab associations gathered about 10,000 people and two youths were arrested for violence against the police," Israeli police spokeswoman Luba Samri stated.

They had organized the event under the title, "Your 'independence' day is our 'Nakba'," Arabic for catastrophe.

"There will be no peace, no stability and no reconciliation without the refugees' right of return," Israeli Arab lawmaker Mohammad Barakei told AFP.

Palestinian Arabs mark 'Nakba day' on May 15, but Arab Israelis hold demonstrations on Israeli independence day, which fell on Tuesday this year.
