Only about 2,000 people took part in a rally in Tel Aviv last night against Israel\'s \"militaristic\" policies in Yesha (Judea, Samaria & Gaza). Former Meretz leader Shulamit Aloni and left-wing notables such as Uri Avneri addressed the crowd, calling Prime Minister Sharon, Defense Minister Ben-Eliezer and Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Mofaz \"war criminals\" and the like. Aloni even said that Mofaz and the government must \"apologize\" to neo-Nazi Jorge Haider of Austria, \"who only wishes to expel newcomers to his country, while [Israel] wishes to expel those who have lived here for generations.\" Meretz leader MK Yossi Sarid distanced himself and his party from last night\'s event, and said afterwards that he did not agree with Aloni\'s remarks or with the army soldiers\' letter refusing to comply with army orders to serve in Yesha. Air Force Commander Maj.-Gen. Dan Halutz also sharply condemned those who signed the letter.
