(9 February 2002 – 23:04) A female resident of the Shomron community of Maale Ephraim was murdered by terrorist gunfire not far from her home earlier tonight shortly before 10:00pm. The victim’s vehicle was targeted by gunfire in the area of the Arab village of Marda while traveling on the Trans-Samaria Highway between Tapuach Junction and Ariel, heading towards Maale Ephraim. The highway connects the Tel Aviv area to the Jordan Valley.

The fatal shots were most likely fired from a parked car on the north side of the road. The son continued driving until he reached Tapuach Junction where resuscitation efforts were implemented, without success. The mortally wounded victim was pronounced dead on the scene. Her son, who sustained light injuries, was transported to Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikvah.

The army has imposed a closure on the area and a manhunt for the terrorists is in progress.

Elsewhere in Yesha, mortar shells landed in Gush Katif – no reports of injuries… A child was injured in a stone-throwing attack on the Hussan bypass road - he was transported to Hadassah Hospital… A bomb was detonated near Har Bracha. There were no injuries.
