Over 200 rabbis from around the country are taking part in a four-day convention for rabbis in Kibbutz Ginosar, dealing with how rabbis can and should help as Israeli society suffers through a drawn-out terrorist war. Haifa\'s Chief Rabbi She\'ar-Yashuv Cohen called upon the rabbinic community to become more involved, to encourage volunteer activities, and to inspire their congregants with \"strength and faith\" during these difficult times. \"The inner divisions in our nation requires, more than anything, the rabbis\' involvement,\" he said. \"It is incumbent upon us to pursue peace amongst ourselves.\"
\"Peace will not arrive if religious leaders do not harness educational issues and religious values to the peace process,\" said Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau at last night\'s opening session of the Ariel Institutions-sponsored event. He said that those Moslem religious leaders who promise \"everlasting life\" to those who murder innocent Jews would never be able to bring peace. \"Why is that they don\'t commit suicide themselves?\" he asked.
