A terrorist who was released in the Shalit deal in 2011 was caught with a knife by security forces on Monday evening.

The terrorist, in his 20s, was caught at the Qalandiya checkpoint and was taken in for questioning. During interrogation he admitted that he had planned a stabbing attack.

The terrorist had been in an Israeli prison for three years after being convicted of opening fire towards a Jewish community in Judea and Samaria. He was one of over 1,000 terrorists who were released in October of 2011 in exchange for kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit.

In the time that has passed since Shalit’s release, many of the terrorists who were freed in the deal have been re-arrested when they were discovered to have resumed terrorist activities.

Terrorists released in the Shalit deal were required to sign a document that forbids them from returning to terrorism but that has not stopped some of them from attempting to carry out terrorist attacks.

At least two members of Hamas's top policymaking body are terrorists released in the Shalit deal who are thus violating the agreement they signed.

A report in December found that terror attacks have been on the rise as peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA) resumed.

Last week, an IDF force lying in ambush shot dead an Arab terrorist who was preparing to throw rocks at Israeli cars traveling on Road 60, north of Jerusalem.

Two weeks ago, in two separate incidents, Arab terrorists hurled firebombs at the Binyamin region town of Beit El. No one was hurt and no damage was caused. One firebomb landed close to the community's perimeter fence, just a few meters away from some houses.
