Prime Minister Sharon departed for Washington late this afternoon to hold talks with US President Bush and State Department officials. Sharon stressed that he is not bringing new ideas or compromises to resolve the conflict with the PLO. On Sunday, Sharon detailed a 5-point plan of what he expects of Yasser Arafat and the PLO before Israel returns to the negotiating table: 1) arresting all terrorists 2) dismantling all terrorist organizations and their infrastructures 3) collection all illegal weapons 4) preventive measures against terrorism and 5) ending incitement.

Tomorrow, Sharon will meet with US President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Colin Powell, National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. On Friday the Prime Minister will travel to New York to meet with Jewish leaders and philanthropists.

Before leaving Israel today, Sharon explained that his meeting with PLO leaders at his Jerusalem residence earlier this week was not diplomatic in nature but focused on bringing about a total cessation of Arab assaults.
