An alert bus driver saved the day. While traveling on the Maaleh Adumim-Jerusalem highway, the driver noticed a suspicious-looking Arab passenger and, while maintaining his composure, stopped the bus at a border police checkpoint for assistance.
When the security forces boarded the bus, the Arab attacked them. In the ensuing struggle, the police spotted an explosives belt strapped to his body. With assistance from a passenger, the police subdued the terrorist and placed him in hand and leg restraints which prevented him from detonating the bomb. The would-be bomber was carefully distanced from the bus, and sappers neutralized his explosive device, after which the Arab was taken for interrogation. The highway remained closed for some time due to a comprehensive search of the bus.
