The journalist from the British Guardian who published some of the documents leaked by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden said on Monday that there are additional leaked documents, unpublished as of yet, relating to Israel.
Speaking to Israel’s Channel 10 News, Glenn Greenwald also said that Israel had done the right thing by linking the revelations about American spying on Israeli targets to the continued imprisonment of Jonathan Pollard.
Greenwald’s interview comes weeks after leaked documents showed that American spies monitored the email traffic of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and former Defense Minister Ehud Barak.
Greenwald said he had found Snowden to be “extremely honest, trustworthy and reliable.”
“He was very intelligent. He thought about the choices he had made and that gave us a great deal of confidence in the documents that he had provided us,” he said.
“The United States government loves to claim that the value of surveillance is to stop terrorism. Does the United States government think that Angela Merkel is a terrorist or that Israeli democratically elected officials are involved in terrorism?” charged Greenwald, who accused Washington of telling lies that have been exposed by the Snowden documents.
Greenwald said that Israel was “absolutely right” in linking the NSA spying to the Pollard case because, he said, “it does underscore the hypocrisy that lies at center of so much of what the U.S. government does.”
Finally, when asked if there are other documents leaked by Snowden and which are related to Israel, he replied, “I don’t want to preview any stories that aren’t yet published, but it’s definitely the case that there are a huge number of very significant stories that are left to report.”
“There definitely are stories left that involve the Middle East, that involve Israel. The reporting is going to continue at roughly the same pace as it’s been happening,” declared Greenwald.
