Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon (Likud) on Wednesday accused the leftist organization Peace Now of deliberately providing false information to the world on Israel’s construction plans in Judea and Samaria.

On Tuesday, Peace Now declared that Israel had issued tenders for 20,000 new homes in Judea and Samaria, a figure which the group called a new "record." This led to condemnation of Israel by both the United States and the Palestinian Authority, which threatened to end the peace talks with Israel.

Danon, however, explained in a conversation with Arutz Sheva that even if tenders were issued, it takes years for any home to be built. He said that Peace Now was deliberately sabotaging Israeli building plans but, he declared, their attempts will be fruitless.

“Unfortunately, we’re talking only about the planning period,” said Danon. “It’ll take years before we actually build 20,000 units in Judea and Samaria.”

He added, “Peace Now is still working against Israel and is still inciting against Israel, but what they’re actually doing today is sabotaging the peace process themselves by giving wrong details to the Americans.”

Danon assured Peace Now and all the other critics of Israel, “We will continue to build not only in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa, but also in Ariel, Maaleh Adumim and the other parts of the Land of Israel.”
