Israel on Saturday allowed Gaza’s Hamas rulers and the Red Cross to retrieve the bodies of four Hamas terrorists who were killed by IDF soldiers on Thursday night.

The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said in a statement that the move was a humanitarian gesture on Israel’s part.

In Thursday night’s incident, an IDF squad was working on a controlled explosion of the terror tunnel that was recently discovered and which led from Gaza into an Israeli kibbutz.

As the soldiers were working, terrorists set off an explosive device, wounding five soldiers, one of them seriously.

The IDF responded by opening fire at terrorists who were in the area, killing four. In addition, IAF aircraft also targeted another terrorist tunnel in southern Gaza. Direct hits were identified.

The four Hamas terrorists who were killed have been identified as “tunnel experts”.

An IDF official, speaking to reporters on Friday afternoon, said that despite the incident, the IDF was able to complete the assignment and seal the terror tunnel by blowing it up.

"We helped Hamas understand that the tunnels are the terrorists’ graves, not their shield as they believe."
