Federal police have issued an indictment against a 45 year-old resident of Toronto for making threats and disturbing public order at the offices of the Canadian Prime Minister in Ottawa, Shalom Toronto reports.
Mahmoud Jamal was arrested on Wednesday morning just hours before the traditional speech of the government opening of the new parliament session in the capital Ottawa.
The PM's offices, located close to the parliament building, were evacuated after the infiltration was reported. Additional police forces called to the area arrested Mahmoud Jamal who was carrying a suspicious package - later investigated by the unit for explosives removal. Prior to the arrest, police guarding the offices confirmed they had refused entry to Jamal.
As the arrest was made, police reported Jamal had made threats and had begun praying in a foreign language.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper was not in his offices at the time, although he was close by delivering a speech to a Conservative caucus meeting in the Parliament buildings across the street.
