Palestinian Authority police freely travel on roads in Area C, the areas of Judea and Samaria under Israeli civilian and military control. The grassroots Samaria Residents Council has logged dozens of witness accounts of drivers who have observed PA police cars traveling on roads used by Israeli civilians in Judea and Samaria.

In response, the Council set up cameras at several IDF installations on roads in Judea and Samaria, and recorded the incidents. According to the Oslo Accords, such vehicles are supposed to be accompanied by IDF vehicles, but in almost all the cases, IDF vehicles were nowhere to be seen.

The PA police must be accompanied by IDF soldiers, as they are permitted to carry weapons in order to ensure order in PA cities. In order to ensure security for Israeli drivers, the PA police are supposed to be accompanied by Israeli troops while in areas which Israeli civilians frequent or use.

Council chairman Sagi Keizler said it was unbelievable that the state let such a situation continue, especially in the wake or recent terror attacks, such as the one Saturday night in Psagot, in which 9 year old Noam Glick was shot in the neck at close range. The girl was badly injured, but is in good condition after surgery.

“It is clear to everyone that the 'Palestinian police' are terrorists wearing uniforms,” Keizler said. “Their presence on the roads in Judea and Samaria endangers residents.”

In several videos taken by the Council, Israeli police are seen driving near the PA police vehicles, without stopping them or even checking to see if they have weapons.

“This is the latest insult the Oslo Accords have brought upon us,” said Keizler. “Now PA police are traveling on Israeli roads without interference. This is just another reason why Israel should renounce the Accords, signed by arch-murderer Yasser Arafat.”
