Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's process of recovery from the very serious condition he was in a few days ago continued Thursday.

The venerated spiritual leader of the Shas party and former Chief Rabbi is now fully conscious and is communicating with the people around him, according to Prof. Dan Gilon, the cardiologist who is taking care of the rabbi, at Hadassah Ein Kerem in Jerusalem.

Prof. Gilon said that the artificial respiration tube that the rabbi was breathing through was removed in the afternoon, but that the rabbi's condition continues to be serious.

Rabbi Ovadia's ability to talk has been impaired because the respiration tube had been adjacent to his larynx.

The rabbi's family continues to ask the general public to pray for the recovery of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef ben Georgia.

Tens of thousands of people attended prayers for Rabbi Ovadia's health three days ago, in a mass prayer session at the Kotel (Western Wall).

The rabbi was placed in an induced coma and artificially respirated ten days ago, when his medical condition deteriorated and fuid was discovered in his lungs. Doctors at the time said they were fighting for his life
