Prince Nawaf bin Abdul Aziz, Saudi Arabia\'s top intelligence official, said at the end of last week that any US action to weaken Arafat would destroy prospects for a peace settlement in the Middle East. Aziz called Arafat \"a man of peace.\" The New York Times reports that his statement comes on the backdrop of a poll taken three months ago showing that 95% of educated Saudis of ages 25-41 supported Bin Laden\'s cause.

The prince implied that his country would not support an American military campaign against Iraq or any other Arab or Muslim country. The Jerusalem Post reported today that Saudi Arabia was behind the fact that Israel was not invited to attend last week\'s International Conference on Reconstruction Assistance to Afghanistan in Tokyo. The Saudis threatened to boycott the conference if a delegation from Israel attended.
