(27 January - 2:00pm) At about 12:15pm, a lone suicide bomber detonated a large explosive device on Jerusalem’s Jaffe Street between King George Street and Zion Square. The blast took place at almost the exact location of last week’s terrorist shooting attack that claimed the lives of two innocent persons and wounded over 50.

Police Chief Mickey Levy, who suffered a heart attack while operating at the attack scene, is report in serious/stable condition at Bikur Cholim Hospital.

Prior to taking ill, Levy stated that judging by the damage to the surrounding area, it was apparent the bomb was very large. He added that police were doing everything possible and it was not possible to prevent attacks like the one seen today.

Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert announced he would be meeting with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon later, refusing to reveal the details of what he explained were ideas to combat the wave of Arab terrorism.

Government officials are placing the blame directly on Yasser Arafat and the PA, stating they are holding him accountable.

At this time, police are beginning to reopen King George Street to vehicular traffic, but Jaffe Street remains closed. No terror organization has claimed responsibility for the attack.
