Finance Ministry and Local Government officials will make a last-minute attempt tomorrow night to avert a municipal workers\' nationwide strike. The strike, if held, will include garbage collectors, and is planned to begin on Sunday - a week before the week-long Passover holiday. The dispute is a remnant of the strike of two months ago, when newly-elected Prime Minister Sharon promised that the national government would pay half the pay raise promised the city workers. The Finance Ministry would like to \"re-negotiate\" that promise. The strike also threatens Jerusalem, even though Mayor Ehud Olmert has agreed to pay a higher proportion of the pay raise. Olmert says that uncollected piles of refuse could pose a security threat.
