A 50-year-old Syrian woman was brought on Friday evening to Israel after being wounded during the civil war that is raging in her country.
The woman, who was listed in moderate condition, was at first brought to the Ziv Hospital in the city of Tzfat.
It was subsequently decided, however, to transfer the woman to the Rambam Hospital in Haifa, the largest hospital in northern Israel, after doctors determined that she had shrapnel in her heart.
Doctors believe the woman underwent surgery at an improvised field hospital in Syria and, when that surgery failed, it was decided to take her to Israel.
A total of 51 wounded Syrians have been treated at the Ziv Hospital since the civil war broke out. Last week four Syrians, including an eight-year-old girl, were brought to the Ziv Hospital for treatment.
Some of the wounded have been brought to the Nahariya Hospital for treatment.
Several months ago, international media reported that he IDF had built a military field hospital in the Golan Heights.
