Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer said that the Hizbullah offensive yesterday could not have been carried out without Syrian approval or the backing and encouragement of Iran. He said Hizbullah actions have the potential of dragging the region into a wider war and said that Israel reserves the right to react in any way that it thinks will be appropriate.

The Lebanese Hizzbullah terrorist group fired mortars and anti-tank missiles at IDF outposts along the northern border yesterday near Har Dov, breaking a three-month period of quiet. The IDF Spokesman said IAF planes were fired upon from Lebanese territory, although the planes were in Israeli air space. Pieces of shrapnel were found inside Israeli territory that were fired by the Hizbullah. There were no injuries to IDF forces from the above attacks.

Israeli residents along the border are nervous due to the heavy fire so close to their homes, but have not yet been given any orders to enter bomb shelters.

The US has been pressuring the Lebanese government and Syria, the main power broker in Lebanon, to curb the Hizbullah. The United States has listed the Hizzbullah terror organization second on the list of terrorist organizations. They come right after Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaida group.

The Lebanese government and its army is not expected to have the power, or even much of an influence to stop the Hizzbullah attacks, They are not motivated, and they are afraid. They believe it might ignite another civil war in Lebanon.
