Former Public Security Minister and Yom Kippur War hero Avigdor Kahalani was totally cleared of all wrongdoing this morning in the Tel Aviv Magistrates Court. He had been accused of leaking sensitive information on the Nimrodi investigation. The Court, in an unusual move, declared Kahalani innocent even before his defense had begun. The judge thereby accepted the claim of the defense that the Prosecution had not succeeded in making a case against him, and that there was therefore nothing to defend. Kahalani, who cried for joy upon hearing the decision, said later that the entire case was based on the personal interests of individuals in the police department who wished to make a name for themselves.
