Thousands of people on Monday attended the funeral of Hani Trudi, a police officer assigned to the Kiryat Shmona station in northern Israel. He was killed Sunday night after he fell down when a roof in the city collapsed, as he was chasing thieves.

Trudi and a fellow officer were alerted to a possible theft in the industrial zone of Kiryat Shmona, and observed a thief running across the roof of a supermarket. They climbed the roof in pursuit of the thief, but as they ran the roof began to cave in. Trudi fell five meters to the ground, and was badly injured. He was taken to a hospital in Tsefat, where he died of his wounds.

Trudi, a resident of the village of Sami'a in northern Israel, left behind a wife and three children – twins age 13, and an 11 year old. Israel Police commander Yochanan Danino attended the funeral.
