Coalition talks between Likud Beytenu, Yesh Atid and Bayit Yehudi are widely assumed to be in their final stages. However, sources in Bayit Yehudi (Jewish Home) reported Tuesday evening that talks have hit a snag.

Likud Beytenu, Yesh Atid and Bayit Yehudi are all hoping to head the Knesset’s Finance Committee, sources explained.

The committee is one of the most important in the Knesset. Sources in Bayit Yehudi explained that their party is seeking to get one of its MKs appointed to the position of committee chairperson “in order to fulfill our promises of economic reform and breaking up centralization in the market.”

Likud and Yesh Atid are also reportedly engaged in a dispute over the Education Ministry. According to the latest reports, the parties are considering a rotation in which Likud’s Gidon Saar, the current Education Minister, would hold the position for half of the government’s term, while Yesh Atid MK Rabbi Shai Piron would receive the portfolio for the other half.
