The security cabinet convened last night and decided against a forceful retaliation to this week\'s terror attacks which have claimed 4 Israeli lives. The ministers re-instituted the closure of Arab towns in Yesha (Judea, Samaria and Gaza) except for Hevron. The closures were removed when US Mideast envoy Gen. Anthony Zinni visited the region two weeks ago. Minister Danny Naveh criticized the decision saying that closing off PLO-controlled towns is not enough to halt the renewed wave of terrorism.

Former Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said again this morning that the Palestinian Authority should be dismantled. He told Israel Radio that he plans to address an upcoming meeting of the Likud Central Committee and will call for a vote against the establishment of a Palestinian state, similar to the statement released earlier this week by the party bureau. Netanyahu explained there was no chance of obtaining peace in the region as long as Yasser Arafat stood at the helm of the PLO and steps must be taken towards his removal.

Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Shaul Mofaz departed last night for a two-day visit to the United States where he will meet with senior security officials.
