The government is working to upgrade the electric grid serving Yesha (Judea, Samaria & Gaza) communities, seeking to install new high-tension lines to serve various districts there. One line is being installed from Jerusalem to Mishor Adumim, south of Jericho, and other planned lines will run east-west from Ofrah to Modi\'in and from Maaleh Ephraim in the Jordan Valley to Ariel. The current lines will be used for Arab towns, thus that there will be a separation between the lines serving Arab villages and the updated system servicing Jewish communities. Other advantages to the upgrade are based on the fact that repair crews will no longer have to pass through PA autonomous areas, and security costs will thus be saved. Israel Electric Company officials say the new lines will also alleviate the strain on the present system.
